Rebuilding Schools in Puerto Rico

Escuela Angélica Gomez

Escuela Angélica Gomez provides education to approximately 195 children, including 61 kids with disabilities. Bestowing education in a large space for the students after the hurricane has become difficult.

The school includes a center for children with autism that is open for the entire community. Due to the hurricane, the center has no air conditioner, no area to clean the younger children, and no fence to keep the children safe when playing outside.

Problems that they have include broken air conditioner units, structural damage, exposed pipes from underground, missing breezeways and fences, a playground’s absence, and severe electrical problems.

These tough misfortunes cause havoc in the learning environment for the children in the area. Providing the school with a proper learning environment will not only make the students and faculty more comfortable, but will allow the students to better engage in their education.

Escuela Cotto Anexo

Escuela Cotto Anexo is a school with around 25 kids who all have disabilities that range from moderate to severe.

The school was deeply affected by the hurricanes that have hit Puerto Rico. They mostly suffer from roof and structural damage; almost all classrooms have leaks within the ceilings that cause a hazard in the middle of the room.

Several tarps are needed to provide a quick, short-term solution for the leakage issues; this will offer us more time to work on the long-term solution. Other problems that should be addressed in the school include broken air conditioner units.

SDN Kepadangan I Primary School in Sidoarjo, Indonesia

To date, there has been great progress in renovating the classrooms. The walls and ceilings are being repaired,  repainted and the lower walls are being ceramic tiled, as the walls were dilapidated and peeling. The first classroom is finished and is being rearranged to make it a better place for study.  Additionally, a whiteboard is being added and additional tools for teaching. The second and third classroom is now in progress.

We have made great progress on the classrooms renovations. Two of the classrooms are currently 75% finished, and one is 25% completed. Walls and ceilings are being repaired and painted , and windows are being replaced.  Once the windows are completed the rooms will be painted again with bright colors and the walls will painted with a mural!  It will look amazing and the children and teachers alike are so happy!

AJ2E4L, Inc. is renovating  the classrooms in both schools, and once finished, will be adding a library room in each school. Library additions and renovations will be underway in the next few weeks!
